EDGARS in Cruden Bay reaches the ripe old age of 65 on Sunday.
Current owner Aileen Ritchie and her husband Colin have absolutely no plans of retiring the ever-popular village shop – despite it reaching that age. But they took a trip down memory lane and came up with this photo of the store in its early days. Mrs Ritchie is the daughter of Alec Edgar, who took over the Main Street general store in 1938. Her mother, Ella, ran the business up until her retirement in 1988. Aileen then became sub-postmistress but she has been involved with the store since 1960.
Speaking last week she told the Buchanie: “Looking at the old photo it is clear to see times have changed. “I can’t imagine a cigarette machine being left outside any shop in this day and age! It says day and night service on it.” Her father, Alec, is pictured on the left, next to Raymond Edgar and Lena Edgar with Willie Silver on the far end.
The Ritchies are looking forward to many more years of trading in the bustling village of Cruden Bay, where they live with daughters Alix and Leanne. They would like to thank everyone who has supported their business throughout the years.
