Slains Castle was purchased by Dundee Demolition Contractor Charles Brand in 1925. This Dundee Courier Newspaper article from 17/04/1925 suggests that there was still a chance that Slains Castle could be saved, even if on a reduced scale. Unfortunately all efforts to save the Castle came to nothing and the Demolition went ahead.
FUTURE OF SLAINS CASTLE
FORFARSHIRE LADY A POSSIBLE PURCHASER.
The fate of Slains Castle, Aberdeenshire, has not yet been decided.
Interviewed by the “Courier” on his return from Aberdeen last night, Mr. Charles Brand of the firm of Messrs. Chas. Brand & Sons, contractors, who recently bought the mansion for demolition purposes, stated that negotiations were on foot for the disposal of the castle, but nothing definite had been arranged. There are a number of possible purchasers in the field, one of them a well-known Forfarshire lady.
One gentleman who is anxious to purchase the house stated to Mr. Brand that it was rather too large for his requirements, and that he would have to undertake partial demolition if he was successful in the sale.
Mr. Brand also stated that he had purchased the grounds and the garden attached to the castle.
